Brett J. Thompsen advises clients on a broad range of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, patent post-grant trials, and patent litigation.
Brett partners with clients to identify and protect their intellectual property assets in the US and around the world. He prepares and prosecutes patent applications, and manages the development of strategic patent portfolios in diverse technology sectors, including semiconductors, integrated circuit design, and wireless technology, computer hardware, software, medical devices and drill-bit technology.
He has extensive experience litigating complex patent disputes across the country, including in district courts and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Brett represents clients in a wide variety of fields spanning semiconductor manufacturing and design, power conversion, telecommunications hardware and standards, computer hardware and software, e-commerce, fossil energy production, and medical devices.
Brett previously served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Timothy B. Dyk of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. While in law school, Brett was associate editor of the Texas Law Review.
Prior to attending law school, Brett worked for seven years as an analog/mixed-signal circuit designer at Motorola, Inc. and Texas Instruments, Inc. He was the lead design engineer on multiple projects at Texas Instruments and is an inventor on seven issued patents.
