Mr. Slayden’s practice focuses on patent litigation (including before the International Trade Commission), intellectual property acquisition due diligence, patent portfolio licensing negotiations, and domestic/international intellectual property asset management. His experience includes two first-chair appearances before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, where he won both appeals.

Mr. Slayden has broad experience with such technologies as medical devices, microcontrollers, pharmaceuticals, semiconductor packaging and manufacturing, oil and gas production systems, laminates, explosives, catalysts, wireless data acquisition and transmission systems, and polyurethane foam production. Previously, Mr. Slayden was a partner with Baker Botts L.L.P.

International Trade Commission Proceedings

Litigation of multiple ITC Section 337 actions throughout career, including as an associate, partner and as lead partner involving such diverse technologies as chemotherapy pharmaceuticals to home appliances. Most recently, lead partner in ITC action involving the enforcement of a home appliance patent assigned to Applica Consumer Products, Inc. now Spectrum Brands, Inc. One respondent agreed to cease importation before the hearing with the action proceeding against two respondents. Successfully obtained an Exclusion Order barring the further importation of infringing appliances into the United States.

Federal Circuit Appeals

Appearance in multiple appeals to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, most notably as the lead in two winning first chair appearances in Doyle et al. v. Crain Industries, Inc. involving a patent for the manufacture of polyurethane foam.
